TLS 3RD GRADE NEWSLETTER
· APRIL/MAY 2008 ·
Dear Parents,
The year is moving along very quickly. Most of the children seem to be very confident with their multiplication facts. Continue to review them daily, as we will be moving on to multiplication of 2 and 3 digit numbers. Do not forget to also review the addition & subtraction facts.
Our Zoo trip is scheduled for May 15. If you are planning to attend, the cost of the trip ($25.00) is due to me by April 10. If I do not receive your payment by that date, I will assume that you are no longer able to attend. We are looking forward to a fun and informative trip.
CURRICULUM
Christian Education: As we complete the unit on the final week of the life of Jesus, we will return to our study of the Old Testament. We will meet people whom God called to battle against idolatries.
Bible Verse: Praise be to the Lord, for He has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Psalm 28: 6 – 7.
Reading: Unit 6, entitled “Imagination.kids”, will help us to see how people can use their imaginations for fun, and how creativity can help us to solve our problems. Skills to be covered are: generalizations, making judgments, setting, and character analysis.
Language: Students will learn that a compound sentence contains two simple sentences joined by a comma and a conjunction. They will also learn that quotation marks are used to show where a speaker’s exact words begin and end.
Spelling: We will learn words with suffixes and prefixes; as well as words with hard and soft “C”.
Math: Students will be multiplying 2 and 3 digit numbers, with and without regrouping. They will also be dividing with 1 and 2 digit quotients, with and without remainders.
Social Studies & Science:
Science: We will learn how animals grow and change during their lifetime, and we will understand the difference between instinct and learned behavior. We will learn how organisms live and adapt to their environment.
Social Studies: We will read about some real American heroes and
recognize how some individuals have helped our country to grow and
change, and how technology and inventions have benefited our country.
