TLS KINDERGARTEN NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents,
         
We now look forward to the coming of spring and all the activities it brings.  We begin by celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus and the new life He gives to us.  Thank you for your continued support. 

The children have grown so much in many ways.  We will continue to learn new things as we progress toward the end of the school year.  In addition, we have the excitement of Graduation to look forward to.  This continues to be a very special and memorable year.  

CURRICULUM

Christian Education:      We will continue to learn stories and characters from the New Testament including the Ascension, Pentecost, Dorcas, Paul, and Timothy.  We will learn that God is always with us and how He helps us share His love and helps us care for others.

Bible Verse:                    (Jesus said,) “I am with you always.”  Matthew 28:20
                                      We are God’s children.  Romans 8:16
                                      Go into the world and tell the good news.  Mark 16:15
                                      Share with God’s people who are in need.  Romans 12:13
                                      Pray for each other.  James 5:16

Language Arts:               Phonics, spelling and handwriting
Long Vowel Rules: a vowel not followed by a consonant, vowel-
consonant-e (silent e)
                                      Digraphs: ck, sh, th, oo, ch, ee
                                      Combinations: ar, or, er
                                      Vowel Pattern: VC’/CV

Language Concepts:       We will continue reading new words and sentences, including our final Decodable Readers, My Pal Bo, Will She Tell?, Look Who Can Cook, Three Rich Sheep, Eight is the Best Number, and What is My Pet?  We will learn new concepts including combination sounds, arc coding, macron coding, voiced and unvoiced sounds, and new sight words.

Math Numbers:               Chapter 8 – Greater Numbers
                                      Chapter 9 – Exploring Addition
                                      Chapter 10 – Exploring Subtraction

Math Concepts:              We will explore greater numbers to 100, count forward and backward to 20, comparing numbers and solving problems.  We will explore addition to 10 and subtraction from 10 using the plus and minus signs to solve number sentences and add and subtract money.
Social Studies:               Our units include maps, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day and preparing for our Graduation.

Science:                         We will explore the season of spring, seeds and plants, insects, and animals.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:   
A special thank you to everyone for your support and help this year.  You are an awesome group of parents.  Thank you for your help in the classroom, in our Specials, with parties, PTL activities, homework and all the little extras that were done throughout the year.  Our Graduation is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, at 7:00 p.m.  Children should meet in the classroom at 6:30 p.m. wearing dress clothes – not uniforms.  Please watch for more information in upcoming Information and Information Folders.


SUGGESTED READING:   
Please continue reading as much as possible.  Utilize the public library.  It is recommended that you purchase the Summer Bridges Workbook for Kindergarten entering First Grade to retain skills during the summer.  This book is available at Learning How in Bel Air.
